How to survive has a student in Nigeria

Post by Faith Ada »

So let's be honest with each other:

How are you surviving?

Is it garri and groundnut that is holding you? Is it side hustle? Is it "God abeg"? Is it scholarship, or you don learn how to manage 5k for 2 weeks?

Here are some things many students are doing to survive:

1. Budget like your life depends on it
If you spend all your money in week 1, week 2-4 will show you shege.

2. Learn one skill
Data selling, hair making, graphic design, tutoring, POS, thrift selling. One small hustle can save you.

3. Cook in bulk and share costs
One pot of rice shared with roommates is cheaper than buying food every day.

4. Use free resources
Free Wi-Fi in school, free PDFs, YouTube tutorials, library. Don't waste money where you can learn free.

5. Protect your mental health
No compare yourself to people posting soft life online. Many are also managing. Take it one day at a time.

Surviving as a student in Nigeria is not easy. Between school fees, accommodation, feeding, transportation, electricity, expensive data, and the general cost of living, student life can be stressful.
Sometimes, you see your mates enjoying life while you're struggling to afford a decent meal. You may have dreams, but your financial situation makes those dreams seem far away.
However, being a student with limited resources does not mean your future is limited. You need discipline, practical skills, financial intelligence, and a strategy for surviving today while preparing for tomorrow.
